2009 - Radiance
'Radiance' is a collaborative exhibition of new works by contemporary mixed media artist Louella Woodham, and ceramic figurative sculpture by Amanda Harrison.
This is Louella Woodham's 6th major show; she has been successfully showing and selling her work for 10 years, following a career in graphic design and account management in the advertising industry.
"This series has evolved over the past 2 years in creative stolen moments, at a time in my life where there was less time to paint. I believe these works reflect the escape of creative energy thathad built up within, and in some you can see the explosion of colour andinternal release onto the canvas.
Radiance is "The quality of being bright, the visual property of something that shines with reflected light."
Louella's work is linked by the gold and silver leaf she uses intermittently, reflecting positive energy. The lustre of the foil radiates hope - a hint of luminosity, a glimmer of recovery, a highlight in the lowlight - creating a dynamic blend of textures, colour and harmony.
Inspiration for this series has come from natural wonders such as the life like limestone rock shapes at the Women's Aboriginal Sacred site on Mt Dromedary. Louella has been inspired by the beauty of Australia's winter landscape, and the stillness of calming seascapes. The bush and the impact of the Victorian bushfires, reflecting onthose we lost and the unity of our nation in a time of need.
Additionally there are urban influences in her work expressing the density of detail within our cities and daily lives, displaying echoes of the past, links to the present, and hints of the future.
"I hope you enjoy this exhibition of new works and take pause for reflection from your busy lives, and allow the radiance to flow through you..."
